Allow me to introduce myself....

When I took my first composition class, I was told to write what I knew. I was disappointed. I was a kid, what did I know?
Not much...or so I thought.
I knew what it was to grow up in a small midwestern town where everyone knew each other and looked out for each other's kids. I knew what it was to have siblings, two half-siblings, parents who stayed married, and a primarily white, Christian, middle-class upbringing where I got my needs met and most of my wants.
I knew what it was to have a house filled with assorted pets, friends, and
chores after school (just before racing to the TV to watch Dark Shadows!)
I knew what it was like to go on summer vacations with my parents, and holiday trips to visit both sets of grandparents. I knew what it was like to get lost in a book and that reading unlocked other worlds, knowledge and freedoms like nothing else could.
I knew what it was like to have a "double-cousin" living across the street who taught me that the power of words could be fantastic.
Most of all, I knew what it was like to love and be loved.
It turns out, I knew quite a lot.
Inside of every written work, there is a kernel of this knowledge. This is the authors' truth - expressed through characters, plot, setting, or dialogue.
This is my truth. I invite my friends old (and new too) to share their truths as well. Knowledge is power -- let's empower each other.

(aka: Editor's Notes)

After two surgeries to the discs in my neck, I found myself seriously disabled when it came to my ability to type and function as I used to do. Even now, typing text such as this is a painful, frustrating, and a much longer process than it ever used to be - so, being a creative creature - I had to think of something else I could do with my time and energies, such as they are.
The one thing that always bothered me about my book was the final printing. Printing errors abound, it's part of the process but it annoys me. For an additional price, which is dear, editors will perform a line-by-line edit. Believe me this is a grueling task and well worth the money charged but I thought I could do it better for less.
Thus, I began my venture into editing. After several conversations with a few new writers, I've started my editing business. Bless these new writers who've trusted me with their precious manuscripts and allowed me the privilege to be the first to read them. They and I venture forth, chapter by chapter, line-by-line, and we scrutinize their beloved work and work through edits together.
Please see my Fledgling Fiction Writers page for these newest authors who are just cutting their author's teeth in the brave world of publishing. Note their names, I do believe they will be going places with their work. Whether they strive to make a best-seller's list or are writing purely for their own pleasure, I believe in them and I think they'll impress you too.
